It’s important to understand how electricity and gas is being used in your home, so that you can make informed decisions about what you use, and what you’ll end up paying for.
A good way to build your understanding is to do a home energy audit. You can do one yourself, either by using a guide – see the sa.gov.au website for a step-by-step guide or a downloadable booklet – or by borrowing a Home Energy Toolkit from a public library, available for free with a library card.
ConnectEd has experienced Energy Advisors who can provide community members with home energy audits and give tailored energy advice. Clients need to be referred to this FREE service via ConnectEd staff, so if you need help with your household energy costs, send an email to: ConnectEd@unitingcommunities.org or call (08) 8202 5128. If you have attended ConnectEd community information sessions you are also eligible.
Please be aware ConnectEd Home Energy Assessments have currently transitioned to phone interviews in accordance with Covid-19 restrictions.

The South Australian Retailer Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES) also provides free home energy audits to holders of a range of concessions cards, as well as those on a retailer’s hardship program or referred by a financial counsellor. If you are not eligible for a free audit, you could contact the third-party providers listed to enquire about a paid energy audit. You may be eligible to receive free energy-saving assistance, such as the installation of efficient lighting, showerheads, or draught proofing.
